They say ‘home is where the heart is’, so, naturally, it’s the perfect spot for your pre-wedding photoshoot. From more wardrobe choices to backdrops aplenty, there are a few good reasons to ditch the tradition of posing in a studio or venue and staying in the comfort of your own flat for your debut as models.

Here are all the reasons to have your pre-wedding photoshoot at home.

You’ll have endless wardrobe options

Don’t try to cram your entire wardrobe into the boot of your car! That’s just asking for wrinkles. If you stage your pre-wedding photoshoot at home, you’ll have your entire wardrobe at your disposal, so you can switch up your outfit as often as you want. Plus, all your hair and makeup tools will be easy to access, making touch-ups a cinch. Bonus: this will give you a variety of engagement photos to post on your wedding website and social media leading up to your wedding day.

You’ll be more comfortable

If you aren’t exactly a natural in front of the camera, staging your pre-wedding photoshoot at home is a great idea. Everyone's a little more comfortable in their own space, so your poses and expressions will likely look a little less forced than they would in a foreign environment. As an added bonus, you’ll be able to take breaks and recharge wherever you want.

You’ll have several different backdrops to choose from

Love cooking? Strike a pose in your kitchen. Want to show off your bedroom decor? Invite your wedding photographer in. Have a killer movie collection? Get a few shots in front of your DVDs. You’ve got so many backgrounds to choose from in your home, so play around and get creative. P.S. you’ll definitely want to hire a cleaning service before your engagement shoot, or at least spend a few hours making sure your place is photo-worthy.

You can incorporate your hobbies

Your home is probably filled with pieces that speak volumes about your personality, and now’s the time to put them to use. Set up your favourite photos, souvenirs you’ve collected on vacations together and anything else that really screams ‘you’. These will make your pre-wedding photos like an iSpy of all your favourite things, which is pretty darn awesome.

You can (easily) include your pets

Wish you could hire your four-legged friend to model in your pre-wedding photoshoot? Well, good news, if you do it at home, you totally can. Most venues won’t allow dogs, cats or other wild things in, but you don’t need to worry about that at home. Plus, because it’s their domain, they’ll probably be a lot more comfortable and cooperative while posing with you.
