One of the first things you’ll want to cross off your wedding checklist is hiring a transportation service. While it may not seem as important as your bridal gown or the confections on your dessert table, it totally is. After all, without a ride how do you expect to get to and from your ceremony and reception venues? We’ve created a crash course in wedding transportation to help you sort it all out.
This is your essential guide to wedding transportation.
Where should I look for wedding transportation services?
There are a few tried and true ways to go about finding your wedding transportation vendor. Some couples like to do research from the comfort of their own homes. If you fall into this category, try scrolling through our supplier directory - there are hundreds of options across the UK (don’t forget to read the reviews!). If you’d rather get out and do some socializing, ask your recently married friends which services they used or hit up a wedding fair and speak to vendors IRL.
What type of transportation should I take to my wedding?
It’s totally up to you! You could go for a classic limousine or town car but those definitely aren’t your only wedding transportation options. If you want to get creative and ride to your wedding in a camper van, a double decker bus or even a horse and carriage go right ahead. You only get to make your grand entrance once, so make it count.
When should I hire my wedding transportation?
It’s never too early to start putting together your wedding vendor squad! The basic rule is to hire your wedding transportation at least six months before the main event. This will ensure that you get the ride of your dreams and don’t have to settle for second best (or an Uber).
How much should I spend on my wedding transportation?
Short answer: it depends on your budget. Couples typically spend around 2% of their wedding funds on transportation, so try not to stray too far from that. If you need help working out just how much that is, use our handy Budget Planner tool - it’ll help you manage all of your wedding spending so that you’re left with more than a couple quid when your wedding day wraps.
Who will I need to book wedding transportation for?
This is really up to you, but you’ll want to let everyone know well in advance if they’ll be getting a ride or not. Some couples like to shell out the money and hire a bus to transport all of their loved ones to and from their venue(s). Others like to keep it simple and only book a wedding car for themselves. Go with whatever works for you and your budget.
When will I need wedding transportation?
You’ll want to factor in every trip between locations and your ride home. If you’re having your wedding ceremony and wedding reception in the same venue, all you’ll need is a ride to the venue and a ride back to your home or hotel (providing you’re not having an afterparty). If you’re hosting your wedding ceremony, wedding reception and after party in different locations, you’ll need to spend a little more on transportation. Remember, you don’t have to order the same type of transportation for each ride. For example, you might want to make your grand entrance on a pair of noble steeds, but you won’t be expected to gallop between events on horses. Simply book them for the beginning and then switch to a car service for the rest of the day.
