Facilities and capacity
Hever Castle has a welcoming character and owns historic 16th century Tudor portraits, furniture and tapestries. The Astor Wing is licensed to celebrate weddings and partnership ceremonies all year round. During winter, it is possible to get married in the Castle Inner Hall and have the reception in the impressive Castle Dining Hall which can seat up to 40 guests.
Summer months see the award-winning Italian gardens blossom as ceremonies for up to 120 people take place under lovely arched columns of the Italian Loggia overlooking the extensive 38 acre lake. This magical spot can also be used for drinks receptions where guests can enjoy the views from the stone piazza and a very own inspired Trevi fountain.
The grand oak panelled Tudor Suite Sitting Room overlooks the castle and formal lawns and is a special place to be married. Next to it you will find the Tudor Suite Dining Hall, again shrouded with oak panelling with an impressive fireplace and is able to seat up to 64 guests. Reception drinks can be taken within the Astor Wing or, weather permitting, across the lawns.
A little walk away, the Guthrie Pavilion, refurbished in Palladian style, vaulted ceilings and full length arched windows, provides a light and airy atmosphere from day into night without losing its romantic background of the lake and gardens. With a maximum capacity of 200 seated guests and license until 1.00 am, this space can be used for wedding receptions, disco and live bands all year round.
It is not possible to dance in the castle or Astor Wing, however, the Moat Restaurant, just two minute walk away, can be transformed into a venue for music and dancing for an evening reception for up to 120 guests.
Be it the civil ceremony, the wedding reception or both, they will be on hand to guarantee your special day is taken care of according to your needs. All their venues can be arranged with flowers and decorations giving you the look of your dreams. They will help you as much or as little as you need with regards to recommending the ideal wedding suppliers for your big day.
The oldest part of the building dates to 1270 being just the gatehouse and a walled bailey. In the early 1500s, the Bullen family bought it and added a Tudor dwelling within the walls and then it became the childhood home of its most famous inhabitant, Anne Boleyn -you are able to take a close look at two prayer books signed and inscribed by Anne Boleyn herself-.
Hever Castle later passed into the ownership of Henry VIII's fourth wife, Anne of Cleves. Then, from 1557 onwards, it was owned by a large number of families: the Waldegraves, the Humfreys, the Meade Waldos... Finally, in 1903, William Waldorf Astor restored it, building the 'Tudor Village' and adding the gardens and the lake. Since 1983, the castle has been owned by Broadland Properties Limited and open to the public.
